In early versions of PowerBuilder, development primarily consisted of three types: composing graphic objects by adding visual controls; coding functions and events using PowerBuilder's native language, PowerScript; and creating DataWindow objects. The earlier versions stressed the rapid application development (RAD) concept in which the focus was to quickly put together working code with a lot of help from the tool. In this scheme of things good practices, like the clear separation of functionality and true object-oriented programming for reusability, took a backseat.
